Judicial Service honours former Chief Justices, retired judges at Supreme Court anniversary dinner
At a Dinner and Awards Night held at the Labadi Beach Hotel, former Chief Justices, retired Justices of the Superior Courts and other distinguished members of the Judiciary were honoured for their contributions to the administration of justice.
The 150th anniversary of Ghana’s Supreme Court became a moment of tribute on July 30, 2026, as the Judicial Service celebrated the men and women whose service has shaped the country’s justice system.
At a Dinner and Awards Night held at the Labadi Beach Hotel, former Chief Justices, retired Justices of the Superior Courts and other distinguished members of the Judiciary were honoured for their contributions to the administration of justice.
The event formed part of the closing activities marking the Supreme Court’s 150-year milestone.
It brought together members of the Bench, staff of the Judicial Service, invited guests and stakeholders in the justice sector to reflect on the institution’s history and recognise those who helped build it.
Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie used the occasion to pay tribute to the award recipients, describing their service as one that had strengthened the Judiciary and inspired those still serving.
He said their legacy would not only be found in legal records, but also in the confidence ordinary citizens continue to place in the justice system.
“Your service has enriched this institution. Your example has inspired those who follow, and your legacy will live on, not only in the law reports, but also in the lives of the countless Ghanaians whose confidence in justice was strengthened because you answered the call to serve,” he said.
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie also extended appreciation to judges and staff across the country whose work often takes place away from public attention.
He said the effective administration of justice depends not only on those who sit in open court, but also on many officers who serve quietly in registries, courtrooms and administrative offices.
“To all who serve in those quiet places, often without recognition, we say this evening: we see you, we appreciate you and we thank you,” he added.
The Chairman of the Supreme Court @150 Anniversary Planning Committee, Justice Richard Frimpong, also expressed gratitude to all who supported the anniversary activities.
He said the committee was thankful for the participation, guidance and support received throughout the celebration.
“The Planning Committee is grateful to you all for your participation, your wisdom, guidance and unwavering support throughout the events of the celebration,” Justice Frimpong said.
The Dinner and Awards Night highlighted the Judiciary’s institutional memory and the continuing role of judicial officers in protecting the rule of law.
It also served as a reminder that the Supreme Court’s 150-year journey has been shaped not only by landmark decisions, but also by decades of public service, discipline and commitment to justice.
