A 36-year-old unemployed man has been found guilty of stealing a Samsung Galaxy A54 5G mobile phone belonging to a senior administrator at the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).

Foster Nyarko, who had visited the CHRAJ office in October 2024 to check on a job application, took advantage of an unoccupied office to steal the device, which was valued at GH¢4,999.

Nyarko had been on the police wanted list for a separate theft at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons in Ridge, Accra. He was eventually apprehended on January 30, 2025.

Surveillance footage from CHRAJ played a key role in identifying him as the suspect.

When he appeared before the court on February 6, 2025, Nyarko pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and theft. The presiding judge, Basilia Adjei-Tawiah, postponed sentencing to February 27, 2025.

Incident Overview

According to Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori Appiah, who led the prosecution, Nyarko, a resident of Effiekuma, Takoradi, visited CHRAJ’s offices on October 23, 2024, under the pretext of following up on his job application.

During his visit, he entered the office of the complainant on the first floor. Finding no one inside, he took the administrator’s mobile phone from her desk and left.

The theft was reported the next day at the Ministries Police Station in Accra.

After further investigations, police arrested Nyarko nearly three months later in connection with another theft at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Security footage provided by the complainant and witnesses confirmed his involvement in the CHRAJ incident. When escorted back to the scene on January 31, 2025, Nyarko confessed to the crime.
