The Enchi District Magistrate Court is set to deliver judgment on April 23, 2025, in a case involving a 36-year-old trader, Ruth Arthur, also known as Amina, who is accused of unlawfully entering her ex-partner’s residence and destroying property in Amonie, located in the Aowin Municipality.
Arthur, who pleaded guilty with an explanation to charges of unlawful entry, causing damage, and theft, has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢30,000 with two sureties by presiding magistrate Mr. Lawrence Buanor-Buer.
The prosecutor, General Sergeant Stephen Offei Asante, told the court that the complainant, David Anni—also known as Nana Atopah—is an Okada rider residing in Amonie. Ruth had previously lived in the same community, and the two were in a relationship for about two years. Their union reportedly ended following the tragic death of their two-month-old child, after which Ruth’s family opposed their continued relationship.
On March 3, 2025, while Anni was attending a family wedding in Nyameah, he received a call from a friend alerting him that Ruth had forcefully entered his room. Rushing home, the complainant found signs of forced entry and noticed that GH¢22,000 he had kept in his room was missing.
According to the prosecution, the accused allegedly vandalized several items in the room, including a 32-inch Hisense television, Binatone fan, Sony sound system, a decoder, and a mattress. In the kitchen, additional destruction was reported, bringing the estimated cost of damage to GH¢27,019.00.
Police officers, after receiving the complaint, accompanied Anni to the scene, where partially burnt property—including a mattress—was discovered. During interrogation, Ruth reportedly confessed to the incident in her caution statement, leading to formal charges and trial.
The court is expected to issue its final verdict on the matter later this month.
