The suspect accused of killing J.B. Danquah Adu, the former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, broke down in tears during a court session on Wednesday, expressing frustration over the prolonged legal proceedings.

Daniel Asiedu, also known as "Sexy Dondon," who is set to face a retrial after nearly a decade of court battles, lamented that the judicial process in Ghana was unfair. Maintaining his innocence, Asiedu declared that he was exhausted from repeatedly appearing in court.

The judge had to intervene to calm him down before the proceedings could commence.

During the hearing at the High Court’s Criminal Court Five division, Justice Kizita Naa Koowa Quarshie reminded defense lawyer Sophia Armstrong, who was standing in for the lead counsel, that her senior had previously indicated plans to file for bail on Asiedu’s behalf. However, the court noted that it had not yet received any such application.

In response, the defense confirmed that the bail application had yet to be submitted.

Representing the prosecution, Ms. Yvonne Yaache-Adomako, who appeared on behalf of Principal State Attorney Sefakor Batse, informed the court of the state’s readiness to proceed with the trial, pending the empanelment of jurors.

The case has been adjourned to February 25, 2025.

Asiedu, a trader, was ordered to undergo a retrial on December 4, 2024, after a seven-member jury returned a split 4-3 verdict on charges of robbery and murder.

J.B. Danquah Adu was brutally killed at his residence in Shiashie, near East Legon, Accra, on February 9, 2016.
