Mr. Afrifa, who has over the years distinguished himself as a consistent advocate for the welfare and professional advancement of young lawyers first declared his presidential ambition on 29th September 2024. His initial bid, which gained considerable traction and visibility within the legal community, was however halted following a legal challenge that restrained the anticipated electoral process.
Notwithstanding the setback, Mr. Afrifa has since maintained a strong presence across the legal landscape. His engagements have spanned active courtroom practice, participation in Bar activities, attendance at professional conferences, and strategic courtesy visits to key stakeholders within the legal fraternity.
A turning point emerged on 4th March 2026, when the Electoral Committee of the Ghana Bar Association formally announced the opening of nominations for the 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 YLF elections. This development has been widely interpreted as a decisive step toward restoring democratic leadership within the Forum.
It is against this backdrop that Mr. Afrifa, on 24th April 2026, officially declared his intention to re-contest for the office of President of the Young Lawyers’ Forum. The declaration, delivered through a professionally curated video presentation, provided both a reflective account of the challenges that have confronted the Forum and a forward-looking articulation of his vision.
In his address, Mr. Afrifa underscored the need for a reinvigorated YLF that prioritizes advocacy, welfare, and inclusive participation. He reiterated his commitment to amplifying the voices of young lawyers and ensuring that their concerns are effectively represented within the broader framework of the Ghana Bar Association.
He further emphasized that, under a renewed mandate, the YLF would be strategically positioned to influence policy, safeguard the professional interests of its members, and foster a more responsive and dynamic legal community for emerging practitioners.
Calling for collective engagement, Mr. Afrifa invited young lawyers across the country to support his candidacy not only through votes but also through ideas, collaboration, and active participation in shaping the future of the Forum.
His re-entry into the race is expected to add renewed momentum to the upcoming elections, which many within the legal fraternity view as critical to restoring structure, representation, and direction to the Young Lawyers’ Forum.
As the electoral process unfolds, stakeholders across the Bar will be keenly observing how the renewed contest shapes the future of young lawyers’ representation in Ghana.
