The Ministry of Interior has issued a strict warning to private security companies against using unauthorized uniforms, cautioning that non-compliance will lead to consequences.
Through the Ghana Police Service, the Ministry detained two individuals on Friday, June 14, for breaching regulations governing private security companies in Ghana.
A statement by the Ministry indicated that the individuals were discovered wearing uniforms resembling military attire, which is against the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (LI.1571) and the Police Service Organisations (Amendment) Regulations, 1994 (L.I.1579).
The statement further mentioned that the arrested individuals were released on bail, but the Ministry will impose appropriate penalties on the involved company.
The Ministry outlined the approved uniforms for private security personnel, which include: "White long or short sleeve shirts paired with ash khaki trousers featuring white stripes. Cream long or short-sleeved shirts with brown khaki trousers and cream stripes. Mauve long or short sleeve shirts with maroon trousers and mauve stripes. Yellow shirts with ash/grey reflectors over brown khaki trousers, designated solely for Mines and Oil fields."
Since last year, the Ministry has been conducting a nationwide awareness and monitoring campaign to ensure compliance with these regulations, keeping a close watch on private security firms.
Private security organizations have thus been urged to adhere strictly to the uniform regulations and operate within legal boundaries.
