The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has announced an immediate adjustment to curfew hours in Binduri Township and its surrounding communities in the Upper East Region. This decision follows heightened tensions and a recent fatal incident in the area.

Effective immediately, the revised curfew will now span from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM.

In a statement signed by the Minister, the curfew adjustment was said to have been made upon the recommendation of the Upper East Regional Security Council and is being enforced through an Executive Instrument.

The government is appealing to traditional authorities, community elders, youth leaders, and residents to maintain calm and resolve disputes through dialogue and non-violent means.

To bolster security and prevent further violence, the following measures have been implemented:

A complete ban on the use of motorbikes, tricycles, and ‘aboboyaa’, with violators subject to arrest and prosecution.

A prohibition on carrying firearms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons.

A restriction on men wearing smocks—citing concerns that such garments have been used to conceal weapons in conflict-prone areas.

These enhanced security directives come in the wake of a brutal attack in Atuba, a suburb of Binduri Central, where a man was shot and his body, along with his motorcycle, was set ablaze by unknown assailants.

The incident occurred less than a day after the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, met with Bawku Naba, Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, urging closer cooperation between traditional leaders and law enforcement to foster lasting peace in the region.
