A tragic shooting incident in Nagani, a community in the Tempane District of the Upper East Region, has left one immigration officer dead and another critically injured after unknown gunmen opened fire on them around 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2025.

The two officers, who were on official duty at the time, were attacked by unidentified assailants who subsequently made away with their service rifles. Both sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were rushed to a nearby hospital, where one was pronounced dead and the other remains in critical condition.

Confirming the incident, Tempane District Chief Executive (DCE), Mbilla Joseph, said security agencies have launched a full-scale investigation to track down the perpetrators and recover the stolen weapons.

He urged residents to avoid speculating or linking the shooting to the ongoing conflict in Bawku, stressing that premature conclusions could heighten regional tensions.

In response, security has been reinforced across the Tempane enclave, with military patrols and intelligence operations underway to restore calm and deter further attacks.

The Upper East Region, particularly its border districts, has seen a rise in cross-border criminal activities, including arms trafficking and smuggling, prompting heightened vigilance among law enforcement agencies.
