A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to five years in prison by the Nkawie Circuit Court after he was caught stealing three mobile phones in Atwima Nweneso, located in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The convict, identified as Francis Amadu, also known as Kojo Amadu, pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted accordingly by the presiding judge, Mr. Robert Addo.
Presenting the case, Police Detective Inspector Dickson Kwaku Frimpong stated that both the complainant, Eric Eyezera, and the convict lived in Nweneso Number One. In the early hours of March 29, around 3:00 AM, Amadu allegedly broke into the complainant's room while he and his brother were asleep. He made away with three mobile devices—a Tecno Spark 20, a HOMII flip phone, and an Itel keypad phone—worth a total of GH¢3,350.
The theft, however, didn’t go unnoticed. The complainant and his brother woke up during the act and spotted Amadu. Despite fleeing the scene, Amadu was pursued but initially managed to escape.
A report was promptly made to the local Unit Committee Member, and a search team was organized. He was later located and apprehended at his hideout in Nweneso, with the stolen phones still in his possession.
Amadu confessed to the crime during police interrogation. Following the investigation, he was formally charged and brought before the court, where he received a custodial sentence.
