A 21-year-old illegal miner, Samwin Larbi, has been remanded into police custody by the Nkawkaw District Court for the alleged murder of a 52-year-old woman, Akua Obiri, at Kwahu Behenase in the Eastern Region.

Larbi, who appeared before the court on preliminary charges, is scheduled to reappear on November 3, 2025.

The case has sparked tension within the community amid a dispute between the victim’s family and the Nkawkaw Police Command over an alleged autopsy fee of GH¢12,000.

Family members have indicated that they cannot afford the full amount and have proposed to pay GH¢2,000 instead.

However, Chief Superintendent Victor Kwakye, the Nkawkaw District Police Commander, has clarified that while the family was informed about the requirement for an autopsy, the police did not quote any specific amount for the procedure.

He assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that the police are working to ensure justice is served.
