The President of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Judge Piotr Hofmanski will on September 28, 2022, speak at the second annual public lecture on International Criminal Justice at the GIMPA Faculty of Law.

The lecture, an initiative of the African Centre of International Criminal Justice (ACICJ) seeks to review trends, emerging developments, and challenges confronting the law in specific fields.

The first of this lecture happened three years ago on October 19, when then ICC President, Judge Chile Eboe-Osuji visited Ghana.

The visit by Judge Piotr Hofmanski to Ghana will honour an invitation extended to him in September 2021 by a delegation from the GIMPA Faculty of Law during a visit to the ICC’s office, reports Asaase News.

The ACICJ was conceived as a result of the success of the ‘International Criminal Court and Africa: A Discussion on Legitimacy, Impunity, Selectivity, Fairness and Accountability conference held at GIMPA in March 2016.

It aims to center the ongoing discourse on Africa’s role and place in the work of the International Criminal Court (ICC) as it applies to the continent.

“The Centre hopes to formalize the network of conference participants as well as International Criminal Law scholars from all over the world to sustain the conversation – engaging the greater international criminal law (ICL) community, as well – and serve as a focal point for ongoing research, scholarship and training on the ICC and broader international justice issues across the continent,” it said on its website.
