Samuel Nartey George, the Minister-designate for Communications, Digitalization, and Innovation, has reiterated his commitment to reviving the contentious anti-gay bill in Ghana's 9th Parliament.

During his vetting by the Appointments Committee on Thursday, January 30, Mr. George reaffirmed his firm opposition to LGBTQ+ activities, emphasizing that the legislation is essential for preserving Ghanaian cultural values and societal norms.

He stressed that while Ghana upholds human rights, certain practices contradict the country's traditions and beliefs. Confident in the bill's acceptance, he expressed optimism that both Parliament and the public would rally behind its reintroduction.

"The people of Ghana have made their stance on this issue clear, and as their representative, I will ensure their voices are heard," he added.

Addressing concerns from international organizations, Mr. George maintained that Ghana has the sovereign right to formulate its laws without external influence. He pledged to collaborate with Parliament and key stakeholders to advance the bill, underscoring his dedication to upholding Ghanaian societal values.

Previously, Mr. George led a group of members of Parliament who advocated for the bill as private sponsors. However, it was never enacted despite its approval in Parliament due to former President Akufo-Addo's refusal to assent to it.
