In a surprising turn of events, the Volta Regional Police Command has seized over one million Ghana cedis—carefully packed in fertiliser bags—during a snap checkpoint operation at Juapong on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.

The intercepted vehicle, a Ford Transit bus traveling from Ho to Kumasi, was found to be transporting GH¢1,021,700 in mostly one-cedi notes and coins, stashed in 68 fertiliser sacks. The bust occurred around 4:45 p.m. as part of routine checks conducted by law enforcement officers.

Police have arrested the driver, Edward Ansah, who claimed during preliminary interrogation that he was merely fulfilling a transport request for an unidentified individual based in Kumasi. He provided no explanation for the origin or intended use of the money.

The suspicious method of concealing the cash has prompted further investigation. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of criminal activity, as they work to trace the source of the funds and the parties involved.

“The suspect is in custody assisting with investigations. We will keep the public informed as the case progresses,” the Police said in an official statement.
