Head porter jailed 10 years for robbing Immigration officer of iPhone
Akpalu Prince was convicted by the Torkor Circuit Court in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region after pleading guilty to robbery.
A head porter at Aflao has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour after admitting that he robbed an Immigration officer of her iPhone 12.
Akpalu Prince was convicted by the Torkor Circuit Court in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region after pleading guilty to robbery.
The court was presided over by Joseph Ofosu Behome.
Chief Inspector McRae Pomevor, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant is an officer of the Ghana Immigration Service stationed at Aflao.
She lives at Second Low-Cost, Aflao, while the convict lived at Garapan, a suburb of Aflao.
According to the prosecution, the incident happened on July 13, 2026, at about 6:00 p.m.
The complainant was standing by the roadside at Ave Maria Junction, holding her iPhone 12 valued at GH¢3,600, while waiting to board a motorbike.
The prosecution said Akpalu suddenly attacked her and forcibly snatched the phone.
As he attempted to run away, the complainant held on to his shirt to stop him.
He pushed her against a wall and fled.
The complainant raised an alarm, attracting members of the public who chased and arrested him a short distance away.
A search conducted on him led to the retrieval of the iPhone 12.
The complainant identified the phone as hers.
Akpalu was then handed over to the police together with the phone.
During interrogation, he admitted the offence in his caution statement.
After investigations, he was charged with robbery and brought before the court.
The court convicted him on his own plea and sentenced him to 10 years in prison with hard labour.
