Hanan Abdul-Wahab trial adjourned to September 29 and 30

The Accra High Court has adjourned the trial of former National Food and Buffer Stock Company Chief Executive Officer, Hanan Abdul-Wahab, to September 29 and 30, 2026.

The adjournment followed the submission of a medical excuse duty by his lawyer, Godfred Yeboah Dame, through the accused person.

Mr Dame represents Mr Abdul-Wahab in the criminal trial, which also involves his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni.

At an earlier sitting on August 12, Mr Abdul-Wahab told the court that his lead counsel was unwell and had been in and out of hospital.

The prosecution challenged the explanation at the time, arguing that no medical document had been presented to support the claim.

The court then adjourned the matter to allow counsel to appear and address issues relating to a pending application for stay of proceedings.

At the latest sitting, however, the medical excuse duty was placed before the court through Mr Abdul-Wahab.

The court consequently adjourned the matter to September 29 and 30.

Mr Abdul-Wahab and his wife are facing charges linked to the management of NAFCO.

The prosecution has accused them of offences including stealing, defrauding by false pretences, wilfully causing financial loss to the State, abuse or use of public office for profit, dishonestly receiving and money laundering.

Earlier reports put the alleged amount involved at about GH¢78 million.

Both accused persons have denied the charges.

The case has already seen a number of legal applications.

In July, the High Court dismissed an application by Mr Dame seeking to strike out the entire charge sheet.

The court, however, directed the prosecution to amend two counts relating to defrauding by false pretences.

Mr Abdul-Wahab has also informed the court that the defence has filed an application for stay of proceedings at the Court of Appeal.

The substantive trial is expected to continue when the parties return to court on September 29 and 30.
