The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in Accra has surcharged Leyland Paints Chemicals for illegally connecting water to their tanks and cooling systems.

The defaulting company was made to pay an amount in excess of GHC 206,000 for the 3 year period it used the water.

Even though staff of the company claimed their water is supplied by tankers, officials of GWCL said that could not be proven after further interrogation.

“Their consumption has been zero since April 2019. They claim they’ve been using tanker service since then, but our checks proved otherwise. They’ve connected our water to their tanks and cooling system,” Solace Akomeah, PRO for Accra West GWCL said during an inspection exercise.

She also cautioned businesses and households to desist from illegal water connections as they would be named, shamed and suurcharge when caught.
