GRA to pilot e-commerce tax in April
The action is said to be in line with the Value Added Tax (VAT) law, which stipulates the taxation of e-commerce – VAT Law 870 Section 16.
The Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Mr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah says the Commission is preparing to pilot the e-commerce tax beginning April 1, 2022.
The e-commerce tax will affect online businesses, as well as gaming and betting companies.
The action is said to be in line with the Value Added Tax (VAT) law, which stipulates the taxation of e-commerce – VAT Law 870 Section 16.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the GRA 2022 Management Retreat at the Volta Serene Hotel in Ho, Mr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah explained that a system has been put in place to ensure that the e-commerce platforms are tax compliant.
“There will be vigorous efforts to tax players in the e-commerce market. This sector has been a challenge over the years for the Authority but we have put in place measures that will enable us to make inroads into the sector this year”, he said.
“The Authority is having a number of engagements with the Gaming Commission, Ghana and operators in the gaming and betting industry to ensure that the right taxes are paid by players in the industry,” he added.
It is believed that the taxation of online services will enable the Commission to achieve an ambitious GHC 80.3 billion tax revenue target for the year 2022.
