Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has announced that the government will revoke the controversial Legislative Instrument (LI) 2462 and replace it with a new regulatory framework upon the reconvening of Parliament on October 14, 2025.

Speaking at an anti-galamsey dialogue organised by President John Dramani Mahama in Accra on Friday, Dr. Ayine disclosed that his office has completed work on a replacement instrument, designated LI 2505, which will be laid before the House for consideration.

He added, “The Minister and I have agreed that when Parliament resumes, we will lay the new instrument to revoke the existing LI 2462.”

The Attorney General’s statement comes amid renewed national efforts to strengthen legal and policy mechanisms against illegal mining (galamsey), a practice that has caused extensive environmental degradation and drawn widespread public outcry.

Dr. Ayine also reaffirmed his directive for Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, to appear before the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Accra by Monday, October 6, in connection with investigations into the operations of Akonta Mining Limited.
