The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has issued a final notice for individuals still holding Diplomatic and Service Passports from the previous administration, urging them to return the documents by March 17, 2025.

This follows an earlier announcement made on January 15, 2025, in response to a directive from the Office of the President to review and retrieve all such passports that are no longer valid under the current administration.

Despite multiple notices, 404 Diplomatic Passports and 387 Service Passports remain unreturned. The Ministry is now calling on the following individuals to comply with the directive immediately:

  • Former government ministers and their spouses
  • Ex-Members of Parliament from all political parties
  • Former Council of State members and their spouses
  • Retired Justices from both Superior and Lower Courts
  • Former Regional Ministers, MMDCEs, board chairs, and members of state institutions
  • Officials linked to the National Cathedral Project
  • Former political ambassadors and their dependents
  • Business figures and entrepreneurs
  • Former government officials
  • Anyone holding an official passport who is no longer in active state service

Failure to return these passports by the deadline will result in their cancellation and blacklisting. Unreturned passports will be added to the Stop-Watch List, meaning they will be subject to immediate seizure at all entry and exit points in Ghana.

The Ministry has urged all affected individuals to surrender their passports at the Legal and Treaties Bureau of the Ministry without delay.
