Government, Stakeholders increase National Daily Minimum Wage for 2021 by six percent

The National Tripartite Committee has reviewed upwards, the national daily minimum wage for 2021 and 2022, effective from Friday, 4th June 2021. 

The rate for 2021 has been adjusted to GH¢12.53, from the existing GH¢11.82, representing a six percent rise. The new minimum wage for 2022 has been pegged at GH¢13.53, an eight percent increase on the rate for 2021. Both rates are expected to be exempt from taxes.

In a statement jointly signed by the Minister of Employment and Labor Relations, Hon. Ignatius Baffour Awuah, President of the Ghana Employers’ Association, Mr. Daniel Acheampong and the Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress, Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah, the Committee noted that the new rates were determined, taking “into account the impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on the national economy, cost of living, sustainability of businesses and desirability of attaining high level of employment”.

The implementation of the rate for 2022 commences on 1st January 2022.

The committee has cautioned organizations and other institutions against flouting this directive, lest they risk sanctions under the law.
