Gomoa Buduburam: Man allegedly poisons young woman for refusing to refund GH¢100
The man at the centre of the case, identified as her alleged boyfriend, Kofi Emma – popularly called Blackee – is accused of administering a poisonous substance after demanding the return of money he had sent her.
Police have launched a manhunt for a man suspected of poisoning a 23-year-old woman following a dispute over GH¢100 at Gomoa Buduburam in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
The victim, named as Theresa Darkoah and also known as Afia, died shortly after being rushed to hospital.
The man at the centre of the case, identified as her alleged boyfriend, Kofi Emma – popularly called Blackee – is accused of administering a poisonous substance after demanding the return of money he had sent her.
A close friend of Theresa, who said they worked together, told reporters that Emma had shown romantic interest in her for some time, but Theresa made it clear she did not share his feelings.
Tensions are said to have risen when he asked to visit her. Theresa reportedly told him her standing fan was faulty and that the room was too hot, asking him to send GH¢100 to have it repaired before he came over.
The friend said Emma sent the money but later became angry when Theresa stopped answering his calls and refused to refund it. He allegedly threatened to kill her if the money was not returned.
The friend said she tried to mediate and promised that the GH¢100 would be paid back, but Emma called again, still demanding the cash and refusing to be placated.
Shortly afterwards, Theresa phoned her friend complaining of severe chest pain and feeling unwell. She was transported to hospital on a motorbike but died soon after arrival.
According to the friend, Emma had earlier warned that if he did not come himself, he would send someone. It later emerged that a person had delivered some “medicine” to Theresa.
Hospital staff are reported to have confirmed that she had ingested a poisonous substance.
Police say the suspect is on the run and a search is under way to trace and arrest him.
