Gold Fields has announced that it will maintain open discussions with the government following the rejection of its request to extend the mining lease for its Damang site, located in Ghana's Western Region.

The government has directed the mining firm to halt operations and vacate the Damang concession by April 18, 2025, when the current lease expires.
In response, Gold Fields stated that it is taking steps to wind down operations in a secure and responsible manner, with a focus on the well-being of its personnel and the management of high-risk activities.
Despite the setback, the company reaffirmed its commitment to engage constructively with the government in pursuit of a resolution that serves all parties involved.
The company also clarified that its Tarkwa operations remain unaffected and continue as normal.
