Ghana to host 61st Session of ECOWAS Heads of State on July 3
The center of discussion shall be the current state of affairs in Mali, Guinea, and Burkina Faso. All three countries have been suspended from the Organisation, following the military takeovers.
Ghana is set to host the 61st Ordinary Session of the Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS in Accra on July 3, 2022.
Heads of Member States will be converging to “examine and take decisions on the political, security and humanitarian situations in the Region.”
The center of discussion shall be the current state of affairs in Mali, Guinea, and Burkina Faso. All three countries have been suspended from the Organisation, following the military takeovers.
The summit will also mark the end of the second-year stewardship of President Nana Akufo-Addo.
Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo was first elected as chair of the ECOWAS Heads of State and Government in September 2020, after former President of President of Niger, Mahamadou Issoufou had ended his term.
He was reelected in June 2021 for a second term at the 59th meeting of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS held in Accra.
