Ghana and Algeria have signed a landmark visa waiver agreement aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between the two nations. The deal was reached during an official visit to Algiers by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

The announcement followed a series of high-level discussions with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf. Both sides expressed a shared commitment to enhance cooperation across several strategic sectors.

Among the key agreements was an expansion of educational opportunities, with Algeria pledging to increase scholarships for Ghanaian students, particularly in advanced fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and engineering.

The visit also laid the groundwork for a direct flight route between Accra and Algiers, a move expected to boost trade and tourism. Furthermore, both countries are set to launch a collaborative oil and gas venture and intensify security and intelligence collaboration.

Reaffirming a bond forged in the era of African liberation, Ghana and Algeria committed to revitalizing their Joint Economic Cooperation mechanism to drive future development.
