GFD calls for amendment of local laws on disability
The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities which seeks to ensure the full enjoyment of human rights by persons with disability was on December 13, 2006, adopted in New York at the UN Headquarters.
The Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations wants Ghana’s laws to be amended to reflect the provisions of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities(CRPD)
According to the Association, the nation has been slow in amending its laws to fall in line with the convention barely 10 years after its ratification.

Speaking at a workshop on a UN project for Disability inclusion, the President of the Association, Mrs. Dagbah bemoaned the low political will and commitment towards the amendment of the Disability Act(Act 715).
Additionally, she called for a conscious implementation of Articles 9, 19, etc of the Convention to enable members to get access to public goods and information.
Further to the above Mrs. Yakor-Dagbah expressed great worry at the lack of implementation of the National Accessibility Standards and Building code in various public and private structures despite being adopted.
