GBA, CIB, and 41 others risk being struck off companies register
The defaulting bodies have thus been directed to take the necessary steps to be in good standing by December 30, 2024.
The Office of Registrar of Companies(RGD) has announced that forty-three(43) Professional Bodies are currently not in good standing, risking being struck off the companies register.
The defaulting bodies, including the Ghana Bar Association, Chatered Institute of Bankers, Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, Ghana Institute of Taxation, Chatered Institute of Local Governance and Development, Ghana Association of Social Workers and others have thus been directed to take the necessary steps to be in good standing by December 30, 2024.
In a Press statement dated May 13, the ORC announced it would begin legal processes to clean up its register by June 30, 2024.
It was noted that the exercise had become necessary due to the failure of these professional bodies to file their annual accounts and update their certificate of membership in accordance with the law.
The Department thus listed bodies such as the Ghana Bar Association, Ghana Medical Association, Ghana Journalists Association, Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana, Ghana Institute of Planners, and others in default and gave them up to June 30, 2024, to redeem themselves.
However, per their current statement dated August 6, 2024, the RGD has indicated that 43 professional bodies are yet to redeem themselves and thus risk being struck off.
The statement further noted that 40 Professional bodies are in good standing, 11 are newly created and 73 have no contact numbers to enable its outfit to contact their executives to update their records.
Also, 4 Professional bodies have requested to be taken off the Register for having gained a Chartered status according to the RGD.
The Department has again urged all Professional Bodies that use ‘CHARTERED’ as part of their names to attach copies of the charter granted them by Parliament when filing their annual returns.
