The presiding judge at a High Court in Accra, sitting on the case of the Chinese ‘galamsey' queen, En Huang, and four(4) accomplices, has vowed to release the four accomplices at the next adjourned date if interpreters are not gotten to assist the court.

The court noted that even though an attempt has been made to get especially a Vietnamese interpreter from the Institute of languages, the move is yet to yield any result.

This occurred on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, when the four persons; Shi Yang, Li Wei Guo, Shi Mei Zhi, and a Vietnamese appeared in court.

At the last sitting date, the Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, who was in court, emphasized the state’s commitment to a speedy trial of the case to ensure the accused are brought to book.

Also, he mentioned that the state has filed four witness statements and 18 pieces of evidence and thus prayed to the court for an adjournment for additional documents to be filed.

The three Chinese accomplices have denied the charges.

The plea of the Vietnamese accomplice was however not taken but they were remanded to the custody of the NIB and the case was adjourned to November 1.

However in court today, the court noted that it is as yet to secure a Vietnamese interpreter and added that the Chinese interpreter who was in court the last time had traveled and was not able to join the sitting virtually.

Aisha Huang and her accomplices are facing the charges of mining without a license and engaging in the sale and purchase of minerals without a valid license.

The court presided over by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo has thus adjourned sittings to November 21, 2022, during which she will be forced to release the accomplices conditionally or unconditionally if the court thus does not get the services of those interpreters.
