The Medical and Dental Council (MDC) has arrested four individuals across the country for unlawfully practising medicine without the necessary certification.

The suspects — Kate Baidoo (Osag Medical Centre, Nsakena), Ebenezer Koomson (E & E Medical Centre, Gomoa Afransi), Innocent Tagbovi (Mighty Clinic, Madina), and Ebenezer Sarpong (Goodcare Medical Centre, Swalaba Bukom) — were caught during undercover operations carried out between September 2024 and August 2025.

Kate Baidoo: Found in a consulting room attending to a patient without being registered with the MDC.

Ebenezer Koomson: Completed a Physician Assistant Programme but had not sat for or passed the Council’s licentiate examination, which is a mandatory requirement for lawful practice. Despite this, he was providing medical services.

Innocent Tagbovi: Previously arrested in 2017, he was again caught practising unlawfully at Madina. Investigations revealed he had twice failed the licentiate examinations but continued treating patients.

Ebenezer Sarpong: Arrested in August 2025 after MDC’s undercover investigations found him practising medicine illegally.

MDC Statement

The Council emphasised that the arrests were part of efforts to protect the public from unqualified medical practitioners.

“These actions undermine professional standards and endanger patient safety. The Council will continue to work with security agencies to ensure that only certified professionals practise medicine in Ghana,” the statement said.

All four suspects are assisting the police with investigations and are expected to face prosecution.
