FDA recalls Arcan Bitters over erectile dysfunction content
The FDA has given the company 14 days to remove Arcan Bitters from the Ghanaian market.
The Food and Drugs Authority has ordered the immediate recall of Arcan Bitters after laboratory tests found that the alcoholic beverage contained Sildenafil Citrate.
The product is manufactured by Unni Associates Company Limited.

The Authority has also shut down the company’s manufacturing facility at Parkoso in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
In a public notice issued on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, the FDA said laboratory analysis confirmed that Arcan Bitters had been adulterated with Sildenafil Citrate.
Sildenafil Citrate is a prescription-only medicine used to treat erectile dysfunction.
The FDA said the substance belongs to a class of medicines known as Phosphodiesterase Type 5 inhibitors and is not permitted in food products.
According to the Authority, Arcan Bitters is registered as an alcoholic beverage and must not contain any drug substance.
The product is labelled as containing 35 per cent alcohol by volume.
The FDA said the recall is intended to protect public health and ensure that products on the market comply with approved standards.
Consumers who have purchased Arcan Bitters have been advised not to consume it.
The Authority also urged distributors, retailers and other vendors to remove the product from sale and cooperate with the recall process.
