FDA, Police arrest peddlers of unregistered herbal products

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) says with the assistance of the police, they have arrested some peddlers of herbal product, Nkoyo and Nnompe Nnompe tablets.

The Drugs Authority also said it had seized large quantities of the products and safely disposed them.

It indicated that laboratory analysis revealed that the product contained a steroid tablet, an anti-inflammatory tablet, and other unknown substances, all active ingredients of prescription-only medicines in unknown quantities.

“The continuous use of these products without proper prescriptions and guidance can lead to serious adverse health effects such as headaches, stomach aches, vomitting, dizziness, high blood pressure, insomnia, among others,” the FDA said in a statement, today, March 3, 2022.

“FDA cannot guarantee the health and safety of users of these unregistered products,” it said as it cautioned the public against purchasing the product.
