Farmer jailed 10 years for defiling 13-year-old stepdaughter

A 38-year-old farmer has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour after being found guilty of defiling his 13-year-old stepdaughter.

David Donkor was convicted by the Bekwai Circuit Court after a trial involving evidence gathered by the Bekwai Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit.

He had been charged with defilement, contrary to Section 101 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960, Act 29.

According to the prosecution, the offence occurred in December 2024 at Afoako, near Bekwai.

The victim’s mother, aged 27, reported the matter to Bekwai DOVVSU after learning of the incident.

Police said the child was later taken for medical examination, and the medical report was used as part of the prosecution’s evidence.

The court heard that Donkor fled the community after he was confronted over the matter.

Police subsequently began searching for him.

Investigators later received information that he had been seen at Ntotroso in the Ahafo Region.

With support from the Ntotroso Police, Donkor was arrested on January 8, 2026, and transferred to Bekwai DOVVSU for further investigations.

Court documents indicated that he admitted the offence in his caution statement.

He was later charged and arraigned before the Bekwai Circuit Court.

After considering the evidence, the court found him guilty and sentenced him to 10 years in prison with hard labour.
