Fake Kasoa doctor arrested over fraud, romance scams, impersonation

A young man suspected of impersonating a medical doctor and defrauding individuals with promises of fake international travel opportunities has been arrested in Kasoa, Central Region. 

The suspect, identified as Fredrick Papa Kow-Assifuah, was apprehended on June 6, 2025, during an intelligence-led operation at Kasoa Crispo City.

At the time of his arrest, Kow-Assifuah was found wearing a white lab coat and stethoscope, preparing to meet another potential victim. A search of the suspect's belongings led to the discovery of several medical items, including two stethoscopes, three intravenous (IV) drips, five syringes, two sample bottles, a roll of plaster, six bottles of vaccines, and a total of GH¢8,500 in cash.

In his statement to the police, Kow-Assifuah admitted to impersonating a doctor at United Brain Hospital. He further confessed to luring women online into romantic relationships and extorting money from them by promising fake international travel deals.

The suspect is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations. He is expected to be arraigned before the court soon. The police have urged the public to be cautious of such fraudulent schemes and report any suspicious activities.
