Estate Developer charged with fraud over a Malawian Visa, Ticket fiasco

A 32- year old Estate Developer, Selwyn Kove has been charged with fraud by the Adentan Circuit Court presided by Sedinam Balokah.

The accused however denied the charge and has therefore been admitted to bail in the sum of GHȻ 50, 000 with three sureties to reappear in court on August 30, 2021.

FACTS OF THE CASE

According to Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyon, the complainant, Theodora Odai who was a banker, is a resident of Nungua while Selwyn Kove, the accused, lives at Adenta.

Both the complainant and the accused attended the same church which is the Adabraka Branch of  Enlightened Christian Gathering Church, which was founded and owned by a Malawian.

According to the prosecutor, the church organizes weekly conferences for members and non-members across the world, in Malawi

The Complainant, as a result, expressed her interest in attending the conference on February 11, this year. Therefore a pastor of the church in his bid to help the complainant introduced her to the accused.

The accused, Selwyn Kove, demanded and collected in the same year, a sum of GHȻ 13, 750.00 from the complainant, under the pretext of getting her a Malawian Visa and plane ticket.

The prosecutor further stated that the accused failed to honor his promise despite collecting the money and even absconded.

The accused was however arrested from his hideout but pleaded through his lawyers to pay back the money in a month but could only refund GHȻ 5,000 out of the full amount.
