Ghana’s Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) says it will soon begin certifying and registering professionals and firms that offer environmental management services, as part of new powers granted under the Environmental Protection Act, 2025 (Act 1124).

In a public notice issued on Tuesday, 6 January, the Authority said the law now requires it to regulate who can operate as an Environmental Management Practitioner, maintain an official register of approved experts, and oversee their work nationwide.

The EPA explained that the list of certified individuals and companies will be published both on its website and in the Environmental Bulletin created under the new Act.

Beyond registration, the Authority will also carry out environmental monitoring to verify that approved management systems and strategies are being properly implemented by regulated institutions and practitioners.

The notice is intended as an early heads-up to industry players ahead of the rollout of the new regime. The EPA said detailed guidance — including training schedules, application processes and full compliance guidelines — will be communicated later.

It urged practitioners and stakeholders to start preparing for the certification and registration requirements, saying the new framework is expected to tighten environmental governance and raise professional standards across the sector.
