Ensuring National Security: Judges to continuously apply laws fairly - CJ
“I assure you that the Judiciary will play its role as imposed on us by the constitution. Colleague, I need not remind you of the critical role we play in the national security infrastructure.”
The Chief Justice of Ghana, His Lordship Kwasi Anin Yeboah has indicated the resolve of the country’s Judges to continuously implement laws fairly to enhance National security.
He notes that in the current global climate bedeviled with threats, it is only a collaboration between the National Security agencies and the Judiciary that will provide peace of mind for citizens thus noting that the Judiciary will on its part play its role to protect the nation’s constitution.
“As the guardians of law and justice in the country, I believe it is only proper that we are fully engaged in this process. Indeed the Ministry has previously engaged the Judicial Council and today represents another step in this journey of continuous engagement in the collective service of our motherland.”
“I assure you that the Judiciary will play its role as imposed on us by the constitution. Colleague, I need not remind you of the critical role we play in the national security infrastructure.”
Speaking at a sensitization workshop on the Integrated National Security Strategy for judges of the superior courts, the Chief Justice also noted that even though the threats to nations are constantly evolving, the law remains the greatest tool to combat them.
Moreover, he charged the National Security to ensure that decisions they take relative to the nations’ security are lawful.
He also reiterated the fact that the courtroom will remain the avenue to resolve any conflict that may arise between the rights of the people and the security of the nation.
Moreover, he entreated the Justices to commit wholeheartedly to their engagement with the National Security Ministry to ensure the successful implementation of the Integrated National Security strategy
Further to the above, Justice Anin Yeboah commended the Minister for National security and the leadership of his Ministry for engaging his outfit in the implementation of the Security strategy.
“I wish to take this opportunity to commend the Minister for National security and the leadership of his ministry for their vision and patriotism for making this possible. Of course, the Ministry alone cannot be entirely responsible for the implementation of this document. An integrated policy requires an integrated approach.”
