President John Dramani Mahama has promised that his government will act decisively on the findings of the investigative report into the 2020 and 2024 election-related clashes.
The President gave the assurance when leaders of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), led by its president Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor, paid a courtesy call on him at the Jubilee House.
According to President Mahama, the report provides a detailed account of those affected by the violence, including fatalities, injuries, and the circumstances surrounding each case.
“The document has now been submitted to the Attorney-General, who will study it carefully and ensure that those responsible are held accountable,” he said.
Beyond prosecution, the President explained that the state will also prioritize adequate compensation for victims and their families. “We owe it to those who lost loved ones and those left with life-changing injuries to determine what form of support and compensation will be fair and just,” he noted.
He further acknowledged the wide impact of electoral violence, stressing that not only political actors but also ordinary citizens and journalists have suffered while performing their duties.
The President reaffirmed that his administration is committed to ending impunity and restoring public confidence in Ghana’s democratic process.
