EC Sets 30 December date for Kpandai parliamentary rerun

The Electoral Commission (EC) has fixed Tuesday, 30 December 2025 for a rerun of the parliamentary election in the Kpandai Constituency.
The decision flows from an order of the Tamale High Court, which on Monday, 24 November 2025, directed that a fresh poll be held in the constituency within 30 days of its ruling.
The process was triggered procedurally after the EC received a formal notification from the Clerk to Parliament on 9 December 2025, confirming that the Kpandai seat had become vacant.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Commission said the rerun will feature only the three candidates who contested the original 2024 Parliamentary Election in Kpandai. No new aspirants will be allowed to join the race.
The EC explained that limiting participation to the original contenders is intended to ensure that the exercise functions as a continuation of the disputed poll, and that voters are effectively being asked to revisit their choice among the same slate of candidates.
The statement, signed by Fred Tetteh, Deputy Director in the Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Department, urged the public—particularly constituents of Kpandai—to take note of the new date.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to delivering the rerun in line with its core values of transparency, fairness and integrity, and assured stakeholders that all standard electoral procedures and safeguards will be in place for the December 30 vote.
