In Dzodze, a motorbike rider narrowly escaped with his life after two armed men attempted to seize his motorcycle late Monday, September 22.

The victim, 32-year-old Emmanuel Akakpo of Bedzeme-Dzodze in the Ketu North Municipality, sustained a gunshot wound to his left thigh during the attack.

Mr. Akakpo told police he had earlier been engaged by a woman at the White Dove Hotel to transport her along the Akanu Old Road.

On his return journey, near Bubune Junction by the ECG payment office, two unidentified assailants armed with a single-barrel locally made gun ambushed him and demanded his motorbike.

When he attempted to speed off, they fired, striking his thigh. Despite his injury, Akakpo was able to immobilise his unregistered Sanya motorbike using its remote-controlled lock, foiling the robbers’ attempt to take it. The two men quickly disappeared into nearby bushes.

His cries for help attracted residents, who rushed him to the Sabu-Dav Clinic for initial treatment before he was referred to St. Anthony’s Hospital, Dzodze, where he underwent further care, including a scan.

The police have issued a medical form to support his treatment and confirmed that a manhunt is underway for the suspects. Authorities have assured residents that every effort is being made to track down and prosecute the culprits.
