Driver remanded over alleged defilement of 12-year-old girl
The accused, Philip Asare, is to remain in custody until 7 May 2026, when he is expected to return before the court.
A driver accused of defiling a 12-year-old girl has been remanded by the Amasaman Circuit Court after denying the allegation.
The accused, Philip Asare, is to remain in custody until 7 May 2026, when he is expected to return before the court.
According to the prosecution, the complaint was made by the girl’s grandmother, who lives at Manhean and said the accused was their neighbour.
Police told the court that the matter began in January 2026, when Asare allegedly started making advances toward the girl.
The prosecution said the alleged offence took place on 4 March 2026 at about 8:00pm, when the accused is said to have lured the child into his room.
Her grandmother, who had been searching for her, later saw the girl coming from Asare’s porch at about 9:00pm, the court heard.
Police Inspector Nana Yaa Ofori Appau said the girl later disclosed what had happened to her grandmother, who then reported the matter to the Amasaman Police.
A medical form was subsequently issued for the child to undergo examination and treatment.
Following investigations, Asare was charged and brought before the court presided over by Susanna Nyakotey.
