A driver accused of involvement in a fraudulent land deal has been granted bail of GH¢50,000 with two sureties by the Amasaman Circuit Court.

Frederick Nii Boye Mettle is alleged to have taken GH¢25,000 from Madam Sarah Opare under the false pretense of securing a plot of land for her. He, however, denied the charges.

Presiding Judge Enid Marful-Sau ruled that the sureties must submit valid national identification cards to the Court’s Registry. Additionally, the police are to provide Mettle with all necessary case materials before the next hearing, scheduled for April 2, 2025.

Presenting the case, Police Sergeant Faustina Asamoah, under the direction of Chief Inspector Salifu Nashiru, stated that the complainant, Sarah Opare, is a trader, while the accused resides in Pokuase, Accra.

According to the prosecution, in December 2021, Sarah sought to purchase land and was introduced to Mettle by a church member. He offered her a plot for GH¢25,000, of which she made an initial payment of GH¢11,500.

However, when Sarah visited the land at Kuntunse, she discovered that it was already under development. Upon informing Mettle, he assured her that he would find an alternative plot but later went into hiding.

Following a formal police complaint, Mettle was arrested. During interrogation, he reportedly admitted to the offense in his caution statement.
