The newly elected leadership of the Student Representative Council (SRC) of the Ghana School of Law (GSL), led by Daniel Otting Awuah, has quickly rolled out a series of responsive and innovative policies aimed at enhancing the academic experience for both current and prospective students.

Sworn in on August 27, 2024, the Otting Awuah-led administration hit the ground running by introducing preparatory classes for prospective students preparing to sit the GSL entrance exam.

President Otting’s commitment to fostering an inclusive administration and enabling a smooth transition for successful candidates ensured the putting together of the preparatory session although these prospective students are not yet part of the GSL SRC.

As the first of its kind, this also marks the first of many initiatives that reflect his team’s goal of running a proactive and student-focused administration.

In response to the release of exam results for both Professional Parts 1, 2, and post-call students, the SRC has been actively addressing concerns raised by the student body. The leadership has issued messages reassuring students of their commitment to resolving exam-related issues.

Additionally, the SRC has set up a six-member student help desk, led by Mr Wilfred Akwesi Mensah to handle complaints regarding exam results and liaise with relevant authorities for prompt action.

The administration has also held its maiden open forum where a plethora of issues and concerns of students regarding the results and other related issues were addressed.

Key discussions with GSL management are already planned, with a focus on the 40% benchmark required for remarking and re-tallying, timelines for the release of remarked or re-retaliated results, and other pressing concerns.

The SRC is putting measures in place to organize tutorials for their colleagues who would be sitting the supplementary exams and also setting up counseling and therapy sessions for students who are having difficult times during these times of academic and mental stress.

These initiatives form part of the first phase of the Otting administration’s agenda to create a responsible, responsive, and student-centered governance structure.
