Davido has initiated a legal battle against his baby mama, Sophia Momodu, at the Lagos State High Court, seeking custody of their daughter, Imade.
Davido and Ms. Momodu welcomed their daughter in May 2015.
On Thursday, Punch newspaper reported that Davido’s legal team, consisting of Olaniyi Arije, Okey Barrah, and others, filed the lawsuit on April 17, 2024.
The 31-year-old musician is requesting joint custody of nine-year-old Imade and is seeking an order for unrestricted access to his daughter.
In the case, Davido acknowledged his previous relationship with Ms. Momodu, which resulted in Imade's birth but ended several years ago. The singer emphasized their mutual agreement to co-parent their daughter.
The lawsuit is supported by a detailed 44-paragraph affidavit signed by Davido.
He highlighted his commitment to providing for Imade’s education and other needs.
The Grammy-nominated artist also alleged that Ms. Momodu, 37, turned down a N200 million apartment he bought in Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The apartment, located in a gated community with amenities like a swimming pool and 24-hour power and water supply, was intended to ensure Imade's well-being.
In June 2024, Ms. Momodu hinted on Snapchat that she might change Imade’s surname to her own, citing her dual role in Imade's life.
In contrast, back in 2021, Ms. Momodu expressed her sadness on Instagram about Imade taking Davido’s last name instead of hers.
