Daddy Lumba's funeral to proceed on December 13

Plans for the funeral of highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, are back on track after the Accra High Court lifted an injunction that had temporarily stalled the ceremony.
The ruling, delivered yesterday, removed what many in the wider family feared would be a major disruption to long-laid preparations for the event scheduled for tomorrow.
The court noted that affidavits before it suggested the musician’s immediate family had been sidelined in the planning process and indicated that the substantive issues raised would need to be fully examined on their merits.
In light of this, the judge recalled lawyers for both sides and ordered the applicants to appear before the court by 2:00pm and contribute toward funeral costs already incurred by paying GH¢2 million into court.
When the applicants failed to comply with the directive within the stipulated time, their application was struck out. That decision effectively removed the legal barrier to the funeral going ahead as planned.
Counsel for the family head, Thomas Kwadwo Osei, welcomed the outcome, describing it as a “huge relief” for the family, who can now proceed with final arrangements without further uncertainty.
The earlier injunction had caused a brief pause in planned activities, unsettling relatives and fans who had already travelled to Kumasi and begun preparations for the solemn occasion.
With the court dismissing the applicants’ request, organisers have been given the green light to resume tomorrow’s funeral arrangements in full.
