Curfew lifted in Nalerigu as security situation stabilizes

The government has ended the curfew in Nalerigu and nearby communities in the North East Region, saying conditions on the ground have improved.
In a statement posted on Monday, 16 February, the Ministry of the Interior said the curfew has been lifted with immediate effect. The Ministry said the Interior Minister acted on the advice of the North East Regional Security Council, and the decision was issued through an Executive Instrument.
Nalerigu, the regional capital, was placed under curfew earlier as part of efforts to contain security concerns, prevent tensions from escalating and protect lives and property.
The Ministry said a new assessment by the Regional Security Council found that calm had returned and the situation was stable enough for the restriction to be removed.
Even so, government appealed to chiefs, opinion leaders, youth groups and residents to remain calm and resolve disputes through dialogue and non-violent means, urging the community to focus on actions that sustain the peace achieved so far.
