Curfew imposed on Nkwanta South communities after deadly attack
The order was imposed by the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, on the advice of the National Security Council and through an Executive Instrument.
A dusk-to-dawn curfew has been imposed on parts of the Nkwanta South Municipality following an attack that left three people dead and nine others injured.
The curfew takes effect from Friday, June 19, 2026.
It will run daily from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. until further notice.
The order was imposed by the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, on the advice of the National Security Council and through an Executive Instrument.
The affected communities are Keri, Abrewanko, Abrewanko Junction, Nyambo, Nyambo Junction, Shari, Kromase, Power, Nyakoma, Odomi, Bonakye and Nkwanta.
The security action follows a violent incident at Odomi on Thursday, June 18.
Three people were killed in the attack.
Nine others sustained gunshot wounds.
The government says the curfew is intended to restore calm and prevent further violence in the area.
Authorities have also placed a total ban on the possession and carrying of arms, ammunition and other offensive weapons within the affected communities.
Security agencies have warned that anyone found with such items will be arrested and prosecuted.
The government has appealed to chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth and residents to exercise restraint.
It also urged the communities to use peaceful means to resolve their differences.
The latest restrictions come amid heightened tension in the municipality after the Odomi attack.
Security agencies are expected to maintain a presence in the affected areas as efforts continue to stabilise the situation.
