Former Western Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah has completed his testimony in the Samreboi mining trial involving Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

Mr Darko-Mensah appeared as the fourth defence witness in the case.

During cross-examination, he was questioned on what he knew about the alleged assignment of the Samreboi mining concession, which is central to the prosecution’s case.

The former Minister told the court that he had no personal knowledge of any discussions between Chairman Wontumi and prosecution witness Henry Okum.

He also admitted that he was not present when the alleged arrangement over the concession was said to have taken place.

His evidence means he could not independently confirm what transpired between the two men regarding the alleged transfer or assignment of the concession.

The defence has now filed a witness statement for another witness, Evans Addae.

Mr Addae is expected to testify when the case resumes on Wednesday, June 3.

Chairman Wontumi and two others are standing trial over allegations linked to illegal mining activities in the Samreboi area.

The case is continuing.
