The High Court in Koforidua has thrown out an election petition filed against Frank Annoh-Dompreh, affirming his legitimacy as the Member of Parliament for the Nsawam-Adoagyiri constituency following the 2024 general elections.
The challenge, brought by National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate Amenorpe Philibert Fummey, sought to overturn the election results.
However, the court, presided over by Justice Krofa Addae, dismissed the petition on Thursday after considering a motion submitted by Gary Nimako Marfo, legal counsel and Director of Legal Affairs for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In his ruling, Justice Addae stated that the petitioner failed to provide sufficient grounds to invalidate the election, adding that the Electoral Commission’s declared results accurately reflected the will of the constituents.
The court also imposed a cost of GH¢25,000 on the petitioner.
Reacting to the ruling, Mr. Annoh-Dompreh, who serves as the minority chief whip in Parliament, described the outcome as a reaffirmation of the electorate’s trust and a validation of his electoral mandate.
