The Kwabenya Circuit Court will on September 29 rule on bail applications filed by six persons arrested in connection with the seizure of 3.9 tonnes of cocaine in France.

The date was fixed by the presiding judge, His Honour Rev. Prince Osei Owusu, after lawyers for the accused renewed their applications for bail.

The six accused are Francis Narh Amanor, Frank Adu Boahen, Togbe Agbeti, Andrews Tetteh Amponsah, Daniel Laryea and Helena Akua Dekyi.

Amanor is said to be the owner of the logistics company that handled the export of the consignment in which the cocaine was allegedly concealed.

Frank Adu Boahen is alleged to be the owner of the goods.

The other four accused persons are linked to the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority.

They are facing charges of conspiracy to export narcotic drugs and unlawful exportation of narcotic drugs.

At Thursday’s sitting, lawyers for the accused persons asked the court to reconsider its earlier decision refusing bail.

The defence teams argued that their clients had cooperated with investigators and the court since their arrest.

They also submitted that the accused persons had shown their readiness to stand trial and should therefore be admitted to bail pending trial.

The applications were renewed after a similar request was refused when the accused persons were first arraigned.

The court is expected to deliver its ruling on September 29.
