An Asante Abuakwa Circuit Court has sentenced a 27-year-old man to 15 years in prison after he admitted taking part in a violent robbery targeting a hunter at Ahwiaa near Nkawie.

The convict, Nicholas Adomako Baafi, who is unemployed, pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted on his own plea.

The case was heard by Mrs Philomena Asiedu, who handed down the sentence.

According to the prosecution, the attack happened in the early hours of 21 February 2026, when Baafi and five other men allegedly forced their way into the complainant’s room armed with cutlasses.

Police told the court that the victim, Samuel Kwaku-sei, a hunter who also lives in Ahwiaa, was tied up with rope, assaulted and robbed during the incident.

The items stolen included an itel mobile phone valued at GH¢250, two long-barrel guns worth GH¢2,000, and GH¢14,000 in cash.

After the attack, the complainant received treatment at the Bankyease CHIPS Compound before reporting the matter to the police.

Baafi was arrested the following day, on 22 February 2026.

In his caution statement, prosecutors said, he admitted his involvement and told investigators he had already spent GH¢1,200 out of the GH¢2,000 he received as his share of the stolen money.

Police Chief Inspector Evans Ayimbisa told the court that Baafi later led officers to a nearby bush where the stolen guns had been hidden, although only the cutlasses were recovered.

He also reportedly showed police how the robbery had been carried out.

Following investigations, he was charged and put before the court, where his guilty plea resulted in his conviction and sentence.
