Court remands man seen assaulting wife in viral video

A man filmed in a viral social-media video assaulting a woman believed to be his wife has been remanded into police custody, together with two relatives accused of attempting to intimidate a witness.
The suspects appeared before the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) Magistrate Court, which ordered that they remain in custody while investigations continue.
The main suspect, John Odartey Lamptey, also known as Nii Adjei, has been charged with Physical Assault under Sections 1(b)(i) and 3(2) of the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732), following widespread outrage over the footage.
Two others — Louis Odartey Lamptey and Grace Kushie Lamptey — have been charged with Conspiracy to Commit a Crime, specifically threat of harm.
Police say the pair allegedly attempted to confront a female tenant they suspected of recording and sharing the disturbing video.
All three are expected back in court on 3 December 2025.
Investigators say the assaulted woman fled the residence before officers arrived and has not yet been located. The Police Service is appealing to the public for information, assuring that any credible tip-offs will be handled confidentially.
